What is S³?

S³ (Smart & Sustainable Systems) is a collaborative initiative focused on delivering Zero Emissions, high-performance homes in the Hudson Valley. We work at the intersection of design intelligence and real-world construction, applying Passive House principles to both new homes and deep energy retrofits of existing buildings. The goal is simple: homes that are more comfortable, healthier, quieter, and far less expensive to operate, built to last in a changing climate.


Why High-Performance Homes Matter, Right Now

Most homes in the Hudson Valley were built decades ago, long before energy efficiency, indoor air quality, or climate resilience were priorities. At the same time:

  • Energy costs are volatile

  • Extreme weather is becoming normal

  • Renovations are increasingly expensive, often without solving underlying problems


Passive House–level design addresses these issues at the source by dramatically reducing energy demand, improving indoor comfort, and eliminating common failure points. It’s about building homes that actually work, long term.
